About Me

I’m Brandon Haschick - an AWS Cloud Consultant, engineer-at-heart, and someone who believes production systems should be scalable, secure, and preferably not held together by hope and a single Lambda function. With over 8 years of hands‑on experience across Amazon Web Services, banking, consultancy, and support engineering, I’ve spent my career designing and building cloud systems that don’t fall over when real users show up.

My journey started in South Africa, where I earned my B.Sc. and B.Sc. (Hons) in Computer Science at Rhodes University. Since then, I’ve worked across multiple industries and roles: from supporting global AWS customers during high‑stakes incidents to architecting enterprise‑grade solutions in banking. I’ve built everything from serverless event-driven architectures to full Amazon Connect call centers, and I’ve done it using tools like Terraform, AWS CDK, Python, and a healthy respect for IAM policies.

Professionally, I’m known for being the person who asks the right questions - whether I’m working with engineers, leadership, or customers who just want their system to “go faster and cost less.” Whilst I care deeply about good architecture, clean automation, and helping teams ship production‑ready systems with confidence, my focus has always been on people…How can we make things better for people?

Outside the cloud, I’ve spent years ballroom dancing, and these days you’re more likely to find me lining up a shot in an 8‑ or 9‑ball pool match. I can switch from serious consultant to nerdy dad‑joke mode faster than a Lambda cold start. Along the way, I’ve picked up a few academic and community awards - proof that curiosity, a bit of effort, and care for people can take you interesting places.

At my core, I’m driven by curiosity, integrity, and the belief that technology should empower people - not overwhelm or replace them. This blog is where I share the lessons, patterns, architectures, and occasional misadventures I’ve picked up along the way. If you’re here to learn, build, or simply enjoy a cloud‑flavoured story told with a bit of personality, you’re in the right place.
